Executive Director Honored!
Saturday, January 18, 2014, I was honored by the Coalition
of 100 Black Women, Tidewater VA chapter, for my years of work in the
arts!
As a former gallery owner,
curator of several arts shows, working as Executive Director of the Cultural Alliance,
and most of all working to assure that my friends, acquaintences, and others
enjoy the arts as much as I love them.
My willingness to get groups together, collect the money, distribute the tickets, and etc.
inspires many people to attend arts programs that they otherwise would
probably not attend. At the end of the
evening when they have had a great artistic experience, I am happy to have been
a part of their excitement.
My words to
the audience was to take these three challenges: One –
attend one arts event at least once a month; Two—take a child with you to an
arts event—or help support a youth group to attend an arts event; and Three—write
a check to a local arts group. With over
300 arts organizations in the Hampton Roads area, a person could be out each
night during the week—there is no dearth of artistic events to attend here! Think on this – education and exposure help
everyone to enjoy the arts!
